Case Studies in PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Physical Properties – Chemistry
The project:
Upon request by a leader in the chemical industry, Processium is in charge of several projects involving physical properties measurement.
- Vapor-liquid equilibrium
- Activity coefficient at infinite dilution
- Gas solubility...
Our offer:
PROCESSIUM has all the means to provide rapid and accurate answers for this type of project:
- Technical expertise
- Modeling software packages
- Several measurements tools covering a broad range of pressure and temperature.
Physical Properties – Environment
The project:
Characterisation of a product for the following properties:
- Ebullition delay
- Surface tension
- Thermal conductivity
Our offer:
PROCESSIUM propose a solution to:
- Measure the trend in the product's boiling temperature
- Measure the bubble point of each sample via a static method
Physical properties – Cosmetics
The project:
This company uses a solvent for the formulation of a cosmetic. During the manufacturing process, this solvent seems to be boiling, and affects the quality of the final product.
Results:
PROCESSIUM carried out a study that enabled an understanding of the observed phenomenon, and that lead to the development of appropriate solutions.

Case Studies in PRODUCTION UNITS
Production Units – Dyes Industry
The project:
Implementing a process for the regeneration of several solvents.
Our offer:
To achieve this goal, PROCESSIUM has set up a general procedure including all of its solutions.

- Research of process solutions for separation (process design software, CAMD...)
- Measure of physical properties
- Process simulation for the scale-up
- Experimental validation of the selected technique in the laboratory
- Process adjustment and validation
- Assistance for engineering and assistance for start up and production
Results:
The design phase was accomplished within a very short time (3 months). Simulations proved to be a precious help during the start of the process to bring the process to its expected specifications and yield.
Production Units – Food Sciences
The project:
Leader in the Food Science area, this company launched a project to optimize the capacities of one of its production sites.
Our offer:
The stages of the project have been scheduled according to PROCESSIUM's unique methodology:
- Appropriation of the process by Processium
- Balances over the entire industrial unit
- Identification of the key parameters
- Proposition of a schedule to achieve the objectives
- Coordination of the several stages in the schedule: implementation of a process simulation, acquisition of missing key data, modification of the functionment parameters minor alteration to the existing installations
Results:
The collaboration between the industrial plant, the direction team of the customer and PROCESSIUM allowed to achieve the goals relying on experience, knowledge, and technical means brought by PROCESSIUM, as well as a step-by-step methodology that brough flexibility and security in the project conduction.
Production Units – Petroleum
The project:
On behalf of an oil company, study of the operation of a pilot-scale distillation unit including both atmospheric conditions and vacuum:
- Determine the operating points
- Validate the process design to treat three crudes
Our offer:
PROCESSIUM studied the functionment of the process for three crude-oil streams using a process simulation software package. The calculations enable to obtain:
- The dimensioning (number of theoretical plates, diameter of the distillation and stripping columns)
- The operating conditions of the unit (reflux ratio, flows of stripping gas and bottoms, material and energy balances)
Results:
Determining the rated capacity and the specifications for each of the crude streams.

Case Study in ASSISTANCE WITH INNOVATION
Assistance with innovation – Pharmaceuticals
The project:
Validate the impact and stakes of the continuous process design for pharmaceutical compounds.
Identify feasibility criteria and the constraints of switching to a continuous process.
Our offer:
Answer the following questions:
- What are the advantages et inconvenients of the procedure?
- What are the stakes?
- For which unit operations and processes can the switch to continuous be considered? Can technological keylocks be identified?
- What are the existing industrial applications? current research? Which unit operations or processes require a specific development?
- What can new technologies (microtechnologies, process intensification, ...) bring to this project?
Results:
The precise knowledge of industrial processes, joint work with the customer, exchange of information between companies, suppliers, and a network of expert allowed to depict a portrait of the industry and to recommand lines of work, which have been taken into account by the customer.
